51 Shakti Peeth List- India is a country with so many cultures and religions, but the one that dominates is Hinduism. Sati was a princess born to Prajapati Daksh among his 16 daughters. Sati married lord shiva against the will of her father. After her marriage Daksh held a grand yagya where all gods, and all prominent people were invited. He invited all his daughters except sati due to his enimity with lord shiva.
Lord Shiva asked mata sati to not go to the cermoney uninvited, but she refused to do so. When she reached there and questioned her father about the reason to not call her he spoke badly about shiva. He said wrong words about him and insulted him in front of everyone. Mata Sati could not bear this and became angry she cursed him and jumped into the fire. After hearing this news shiva ran to the spot and took dead body of devi sati in his hand.
Lord shiva became extreamly angry and opened his third eye daksh was killed on the spot and lord shiva started tandav also called as the dance of destruction. He started destroying the world in anger and pain of loosing his wife. After seeing this all gods went to lord Vishnu to find a solution. He used his sudarshan chakr to divide body of sati into 51 pieces to calm lord shiva. The 51 places where body parts of mata sati fell came to be known as shakti peeth. Each shakti peeth is know for divine power and has its own unique story.
